Slamdance Film Festival-Can you make a movie for a million dollars or less?
January 18th-24th, Park City, Utah
Making a movie is hard work, making a movie for under 1million dollars is almost impossible. Enter Slam Dance a film festival that coincides with The Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. It is new film makers presenting their best works for under 1million dollars. It is a festival self governed by filmmakers for filmmakers. Slamdance film festival presents the very best emerging film makers and pushes the boundaries of film making. The 2013 film festival will showcase 22 feature length competition films, 12 narrative films and 10 documentaries. The films include 13 world premiers and 7 US Premiers. The film competition had over 5,000 entry submissions this year.
“Our goal is to showcase exhilarating filmmaking with a revolutionary take on our world. These filmmakers have a tremendous ability to innovate, explore and revitalize the independent filmmaking landscape,” said Peter Baxter, Slamdance President and Co-Founder.
One US premier this year “He is way more famous then you”, features Ben Stiller, Mamie Gummer (daughter of Meryl Streep), Jesse Eisenberg (The Facebook) and Ralph Macchio (Happy Days). This movie will be making its US debut. In the film a struggling actress will stop at nothing to get her movie made in this sharp comedy, bolstered by absurdist touches and a bravura. Don’t try to get this all star cast on your under 1million dollar budget. It will take a ton of connections.
Slamdance is a year round organization but this festival is the culmination of their hardwork and some of their very best picks with regard to new filmmakers. Most new filmmakers today realize that Slamdance is a place to launch their careers in the film industry. Along with supporting filmmakers, Slamdance also supports screenwriters and storytellers. Sladance welcomes screenplays from every genre. They actually provide constructive feedback for every single entrant.
