Head to Hong Kong to celebrate Chinese New Year

There is still time to hop a flight to Hong Kong where celebrating Chinese New Year is special with fireworks and a great parade.  The Chinese New Year celebration starts on Jan. 23 goes to February 5.  According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar it will be the Year of the Dragon 4710.  The flight to Hong Kong from New York State is long – very long so book a stay at the SkyCity Marriott located on Lantau Island next to Hong Kong International Airport.  The luxury hotel is the perfect place to recuperate after a long plane ride plus there are great activities at the hotel and nearby.

Get rid of jet lag with a swim in their heated indoor pool then head to Quan Spa for a rejuvenating treatment.  The dining options at the Marriott are excellent but Man Ho Chinese Restaurant has prepared some special Chinese New Year’s treats.  Their Chinese New Year Coconut Pudding and Taro & Turnip Cake are topped with a finely chiseled eatable dragon.

While at the SkyCity Marriot take in a round of golf, view the heavily forested island from the Ngong Ping cable car, walk up to the giant Buddha with a tranquil monastery, and visit the dried fish market at Tai O fishing village. After a few days at the SkyCity Marriott you will feel ready to tackle the busy atmosphere of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island along with Chinese New Year activities. Round trip flights from Central New York to Hong Kong during January on Continental start around $1000 including taxes.
