Reports from CNN are coming in that the severed head of the Mexican lead investigator assigned to the disappearance and obvious murder of Coloradoan David Hartley was delivered in a suitcase to authorities in the Mexican Army on Tuesday.
On September 30th U.S. law officials sat up and listened intensely to Tiffany Hartley’s – David’s wife –horrifying account of how her husband was murdered execution style on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake, a lake which is located on the Texas/Mexico border, just outside Zapata, Texas. According to emotional testimony given by Tiffany, she and David were jet skiing on the Mexican side of the lake, just a few hundred yards away from the U.S. side of the lake, when they were approached by what many in law enforcement have speculated as being Mexican pirates.
For reasons that may never be fully understood, bullets shot by the "pirates" sprayed the air and in an instant, David Hartley was killed, shot in the back of his head in front of Tiffany. Terrified by what had just transpired, Tiffany recalled an agitated discussion in Spanish amongst the men who were responsible for the death of her beloved husband. Apparently the discussion ended in the decision to spare her life. In shock and undersized, Tiffany was unable to pull her much larger husband’s body onto her Jet Ski, and not wanting to test the pirates "generosity", Tiffany was forced to return back without David.
A massive investigation was launched by American and Mexican law enforcement agents, attempting to (1) find David Hartley’s body (2) establish the identity of the responsible culprits and (3) validate Tiffany’s account of what happened at Falcon Lake.
With law enforcement being unable to find her husband’s body, Tiffany’s account of what occurred has been up until today, the subject of scrutiny, however, with the delivery of the Mexican lead investigator’s head in a suitcase to the Mexican military, it now appears that Tiffany Hartley’s story of terror and murder has been vindicated.
Before today’s events, the Hartley family have publicly pushed Mexican authorities to help in finding and returning David’s body.
On Monday, David Hartley's father, Dennis, told the media he did not think his son's body will ever be returned.
David's mom, Pam, Tiffany Hartley, and her parents, are still in McAllen, Texas near the border. There is no word on when they'll return back to Colorado.
Commentary
Over the last three decades, the Mexican government has lost nearly all of it’s credibility in being able to stop drug cartels, pirates and hoodlums in general. Corruption within their police and military has forced vacationers from the U.S. to in many cases, by-pass Mexico as a vacation destination spot, costing the Mexican tourism industry hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. What is evident is the Mexican government cannot stop the power of drug cartels that have terrorized and murdered in calculated cold blood. Until all the banditos are brought to justice, perhaps Americans should all together skip Mexico as a vacation spot; think about it....doing so may help you live longer.
Until next time Louisianans, Good Day, God Bless and Good Fishing.

This is truly a sad story. I don't think they are experiencing the same problems in Cancun or in Cabos San Lucas, which are very popular vacationing spots. Most of these senseless tragedies seem to occur around the TX/Mexico border. Why they were jet skiing that close to the border is beyond me. I've never heard of that spot being popular to vacation in. I remember driving up to Nuevo Laredo (on the TX side) and walking across the border to Christmas shop several yrs ago. We were cautious and had no problems. By the next yr so many abductions and brutal murders came to light that we have not been back since and probably never will.
I agree that this is indeed a very sad story. With all the senseless violence going on with banditos, I believe that all unnecessary travel to Mexico should cease. Thanks for reading my work. GB
