He's Back!: Patrick Murphy Banks $500K in PA AG Race

Former Bucks County Congressman Patrick Murphy has raised $500,000 in just six weeks following his candidacy announcement for Attorney General of PA.

Yesterday’s press release from the Murphy campaign, stated that in less than 45 days Murphy raised half a million dollars. With $450K on hand, Murphy’s campaign reports that none of the haul is from Murphy himself, not from campaign loans or other barrowing methods. Murphy announced back in April that he would be running for Attorney General of Pennsylvania. His announcement was accompanied by over thirty endorsements from prominent elected officials and organizations across the state. He will face Democratic political attorney Dan McCaffery and former Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Granaham Kane in the Democratic Primary.

Murphy graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in Northeast Philadelphia. After attending Bucks County Community College, he went to King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Patrick Murphy was a leader of the opposition to the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy of removing service members from the American military for their sexual orientation. He introduced a bill in the House to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell back December. Murphy was defeated by Republican nominee and former U.S. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, whom Murphy had previously defeated in 2006.

No Republican has yet announced for the race, but Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman has been rumored to be considering a run. According to sources close to Ferman, she raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars – $235,000 – so far this year. She has $255,000 on hand. Ferman is unopposed in her re-election campaign, but you couldn’t tell that from her first quarter fundraising. The AG is an Open seat for the first time since 2002 after recently confirmed AG Linda Kelly said she will not run for a full term.
