He Matters youth male conference takes place this Saturday, November 13

…and a child shall lead them. Isaiah 11:6

There are so many wonderful conferences that are put in place to educate, motivate, encourage and inspire but very rarely do you see a conference that has been exclusively designed for our youth, more specifically our young males. Such a conference does exist and as a community we certainly want to promote and support events like the He Matters “Power of One” Conference that will be taking place this weekend.

On Saturday, November 13, 2010 the He Matters “Power of One” Conference will take place at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (11100 Johns Hopkins Road, Laurel MD 20723) with the primary purpose of providing “an atmosphere where young males recognize the positive impact of “one” on our community.” The conference is for boys from the ages of 7-15 years oldand will include several tracks that focus on topics directly impacting our young male youths including gang involvement, education and so much more. As the conference theme suggests, there is power in one. What each individual participant takes away from the conference will be tools to develop self in order to impact their families, schools, churches, communities and ultimately make a positive difference in the world.

Included among the roster of powerful speakers is Baltimore’s very own Chief Judge Robert Mack Bell, lawyer and jurist who also holds the distinct honor of being Maryland’s first African American to serve as the Maryland Court of Appeals' Chief Judge.

Several young boys who were previously nominated have been selected to win awards based on achievement/character, academics and community involvement. One of the Baltimore Christian Living Examiner’s past interviewees, Mr. Cameron DeVonne Franklin is one of several young boys selected to receive an award at the conference.
