He Makes All Things New

Happy New Year, 2013!

He is, after all the Creator of all things. The God who formed the universe does not change, but he gives us opportunity after opportunity to change for the better. More precisely, he changes us for the better. As you begin a new year, whether you make resolutions or not, think on these things. The past is behind, God’s future is ahead.

Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is thy faithfulness.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.

Isaiah 43:18-19
Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.

Ephesians 4:22-24
Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Today begins a new calendar year, and it’s time to look forward. Whether you want to leave bad habits behind, bad experience or just leave a few pounds behind, there is one who make all things new. And that includes us.

But if you stumble along the way, you don’t have to wait another 365 days to begin again. His mercies are new every morning, every day.

He makes all things new.

Scripture selections are from the Revised Standard Version.
