HBO has announced that a rather popular television series will be getting the boot, and after only two seasons. Boston.com reported on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, that "Enlightened" would be cancelled by HBO after two seasons on the air. A statement came from the company on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, and said that getting rid of "Enlightened" was a "very difficult decision."
The series was created by actress and star Laura Dern and her co'star Mike White. While "Enlightened" has been critically acclaimed and drawn a lot of cult support; it just hasn't been able to garner the ratings needed to survive.
"Enlightened" also starred Luke Wilson and Diane Ladd.
White actually writes every episode of the series that tells the tale of Amy Jellicoe (Dern). She is an executive with a bit of a self destruct button. With that being said, Jellicoe sees her professional life go to hell in a hand-basket before having an epiphany of sorts. It is then that she tries to piece her life back together a little at a time.
It's not like "Enlightened" hasn't made a name for itself either.
Dern won a Golden Globe in 2012 for Best TV comedy actress due to her role on the series. The talent was definitely there, but the ratings just weren't.
