HBO is ending a show that has been on for just two seasons. That show is "Enlightened," and apparently HBO found that the low ratings were too much to deal with at this point. A report from late Wednesday (March 20) confirmed that the program was indeed getting canceled.
Laura Dern stared as the main character in "Enlightened" and the show had been met with critical acclaim, but that apparently wasn't enough to get the ratings up. The second season finale was just aired and the downturn in viewers couldn't be ignored by the network any longer.
In a press statement about the program, the network stated that, "It was a very difficult decision. We’re proud of the show and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future.” Kind words about the show itself, but probably not what fans were hoping for when the show wrapped up its second season.
That HBO is ending the show after just two seasons isn't that surprising to those people paying attention to the ratings, but sometimes a show like "Enlightened" can survive longer just because it is so well written. Such was not the case this time though.
