HBO show ending: "Enlightened" has been canceled after just two seasons thanks to low ratings, according to On The Red Carpet The series premiered in 2011. On Mar. 19, 2013, HBO made the announcement that the show would not be returning, to the dismay of the show's small but loyal group of fans.
The HBO show that is ending was created by Mike White and actress Laura Dern who also stars in the lead role of Amy Jellicoe, a woman who is transitioning from self-destruction to enlightenment, with often unpredictable results. Other notable cast members include Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd, Sara Burns and Timm Sharpe. Cast members Ladd and Dern portray mother and daughter in the series, and they are also mother and daughter in real life.
"Enlightenment" first aired on Oct. 10, 2011. The final episode aired on Mar. 3, 2013. Even though this HBO show is ending due to dismal ratings, the network had high praise for its creators and publicly announced their willingness to work with Dern and White in the future.
