HBO's 24/7 Pacquiao/Cotto needs a post-fight episode

Promoter Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao post-fight in Las Vegas.(AP: E. Jamison)

I think HBO is missing a great opportunity. They should have a wrap-up episode of its docu-series, "24/7". Who doesn't want to see how the boxers spent their time after they left the ring?

We are reduced to reading accounts, albeit good ones of Cotto being carried to his dressing room and then checking into a hospital.

We were teased by a few news station interviews with a bandaged Manny Pacquiao on the way to his post-fight concert.

Watching Miguel Cotto greeted upon his return to Puerto Rico would be fascinating. They could throw in some post-fight soul searching on the part of the losing trainer as he faces Cotto's family. I'd also like to see if Manny was coaxed to sing another version of "Sometimes When We Touch" (see video below).

Ross Greenburg, HBO Sports czar is not one to miss a golden opportunity. The post-match "24/7" episode could be televised prior to the HBO re-broadcast of the fight this coming weekend.

Or to make more money, add $5.00 or even $10.00 to the PPV cost and have live cameras follow the fighters after they cut the gloves off. I for one would have loved to see clips of Manny in his wacky hat and taped-up face sing with his band at Mandalay Bay.

What do you all say?

UPDATE: Just posted new article with video clip of Manny in-concert: RIGHT HERE

Jeff The Rican? where are you? haven't heard from you lately? LOL

    Excellent suggestion.

However, I still think that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a yellow belly chicken coward.

And his dad is a crystal meth waiting to explode and implode - LOL

The 24/7 series was always lacking, in that it doesn't show the aftermath of the fight. A story can only be complete if it gets some closure.
There would be interest among fight fans who've seen the show view the fighters go about their post fight activities.

Let's remember this, the last three opponent of Manny P. end up in Hospital. OSCAR, HATTON, and this past weekend Cotto. What does that say about Mayfaker. Maybe he'll end up in Hospital as well.

Paula, I am willing to pay $15 just to see how Manny sing after that fight. Great idea! A singing warrior. Really a one of a kind.

That's the reason why they all don't want to fight Cotto. Mayweather retired at an early age just to avoid Cotto, Oscar Dela Hoya refused to fight Cotto, and even Shane Mosley don't want to talk about his defeat to Cotto, and simply avoiding talks of a rematch with Cotto. Manny got hit too, he got hit by powerful punches of Cotto, but that's okay, he thought of his comrades in the army, some are wounded by a real bullet, real RPG's, and real sword "kris" in the war zones of mindanao.

The way Manny defeated Miguel, I found myself craving for more. I realized upon reading your article that you are absolutely right. A postfight 24/7 would have served as a closure to a very satisfying mega boxing event.

    good idead

I think that might be a good idea, but follow the winner, allow
the loser time to shake things off and get over it.
I was for Manny all the way, and will be for the rest of his career. Miguel is a good man, like Manny, he's no trash talker,
he thinks of his family and fans. I would agree that it would be
great to see the camera follow Mayweather after Manny pounds him a new number. Manny can give Floyd the number 1, it would come
by means of 40-1. Due to the high cost of PPV, there will only be 1 more PPV that I will buy, and that is Manny vs Mayweather, please don't add to the already high cost.

I want to hear the excuses of those who said Manny would eat the punches of Cotto more than he could chew, how he handles power punches from a true welterweight and I want to see those writers with their new look- skin heads! (Challenged by Marv)

  • Hey! 2 years ago

Brilliant idea!!there'll be alot of people wanting to know the aftermath of both fighters...Hope it gets done!!

i'm calling out to those who love boxing please stop considering mayweather jr as pound for pound king he is a fake!i began to love boxing because of pacquiao and i love the way hi fights. i watched mayweather's fights on youtube and i found out that he is not an impressive fighter, he is a coward fighter! he runs a lot!pacquiao always gives a good fight and mayweather is does not!!!mayweather jr is a fake pound for pound king!!!

This is truly a brilliant idea. After FIREPOWER, when the smoke clears people are stuck into reading articles of the postfight. Let's get it straight from the fighters and trainers themselves and let no questions unaswered. HBO 24/7 FIREPOWER: "When the Smoke clears" is for the all boxing fans around the globe!

I am glad that Cotto got his ass kicked. Many people doubted Manny from Day 1 and made some very bold and disrespectful statements against Manny. Manny took the best shots Cotto had to offer and Manny took it well w/o falling. Cotto was the one who couldn't take Manny's shots. So many critics kept saying Cotto is too big & too strong for Manny or "there's no way Cotto can lose this fight" or "Manny can't beat a true welterweight at his prime" Well, all you Cotto supporters are all wrong. It was great to see all these loud-mouth Puerto Ricans at the MGM Grand sitting back saying nothing w/a dumb look on their face. I mean what can they say? Nothing. Like I said, I'm glad Cotto got his ass kicked. This is what needed to happen to shut the big mouths of those people who doubted Manny in the 1st place.
