HBO received more Emmy Awards then any other network at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 22, 2013. Some of HBO's top Emmy winning shows were "Behind the Candelabra," "Boardwalk Empire," "Newsroom" and "Veep."
HBO has garnered an impressive history of leading all networks with Emmy wins. HBO won 27 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most of any network for the 12th year in a row. “Behind the Candelabra” received 11 awards, the most of any program, while “Boardwalk Empire” received five awards, the second-most of any program.
HBO went into this years Emmys with a total of 108 Emmy nominations. HBO boasts 108 Emmy nominations, leading all networks for 13th year.
HBO’s Emmy® wins this year include:
“Behind the Candelabra," a television film about Liberace .received 11 Emmys, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie; Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for Michael Douglas; and Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special (Steven Soderbergh). "Boardwalk Empire," the Prohibition Era drama, won five Emmys. Boardwalk Empire wins five Emmys led by Bobby Cannavale
“Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God” won three Emmys, including Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking; Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming; and Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming (Alex Gibney).
“Game of Thrones” the Middle Ages fantasy, won two Emmys, including Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic); and Outstanding Special Visual Effects.
“Veep” won two Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus; and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Tony Hale.
“The Newsroom” won one Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Jeff Daniels)
“An Apology to Elephants” won one Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance (Lily Tomlin).
“Louis C.K.: Oh My God”: won one Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special (Louis C.K.).
“Manhunt: The Inside Story of the Hunt for Bin Laden” won one Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.
The CINEMAX series “Banshee” also received an Emmy®, for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.
