Guests swayed to "Oye Como Va" as they entered the beautiful golden Hudson Theater for the HBO Latino preview of the new special "Santana: De Corazon" VIP screening on April 16. The night was hosted by actor and director, Carlos Ponce. Some of the guests included muralist John “Crash” Matos, singer Frankie Negron, Miss Universe Gabriela Isler, and Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment Clive Davis.
Carlos Santana entered the room in an all-black head-to-toe outfit with matching hat, and a smile on his face. With tunes from DJ Miguelito and DJ Camilo, the crowd was dancing to the music and ready for the film. Carlos Ponce introduced the film, and referred to it as "an epic celebration." The thirty minute documentary explored how the guitar maestro touched people's lives through the making of his star-studded concert this past December. It will air on April 21 at 9:30 p.m. exclusively on HBO Latino. From renowned names like Gloria Estefan and Fher Olvera to new talent like Chocquibtown, everyone had kind words to say about Santana and his timeless and catchy melodies.
Santana mentioned that even though his music is known to be Latin, "99% of my music is African. 'Oye Como Va' when I heard it I knew it could be eternal, but you know what, it is African." On May 6, Santana’s first ever Latin music album, "Corazon, "will be released to the public. Some of the artists that are in the album, made an appearance in the film as well. Santana referred to the timing of making an all Latin album, "It's like when the woman says the baby is coming so the water broke, well the Latinos are coming."
