HBO recently created a FREE iPhone or iTouch app for viewers to keep up with their favorite HBO series and get information on everything that airs on HBO. While you can't watch full episodes or movies here (although you can purchase them through the app), it has enough benefits that it is worth getting, especially since it is free.

When you first enter the HBO app, you will have a choice of these programming categories: Series, Sports, Documentaries, Comedy, and Movies. Once you make your selection you are then given choices within each category. For the eight TV series on HBO (Big Love, Bored To Death, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, Hung, The Pacific and True Blood) you will be given a description of the show, episode guides, video clips, cast info and photos.

In the other categories, Sports, Documentaries and Movies, you are given the description and video clips, but no cast info and pictures. However, both the Documentaries and Movies area, you are given the schedule of upcoming air dates and times. The schedule for everything else is only contained in the overall schedule link at the bottom of the app, which shows HBO's complete schedule.

The HBO app also have a social component. You can sign into your Twitter, Facebook and email accounts and share pages that have a share link on them. So far, I have only been able to find the share link on the TV series cast pages and the schedule page. The HBO website says that their is a hidden object game on the app, but I have been unable to find it.

One very handy tool available on the HBO app is the ability to set reminders. You just go into the full HBO schedule, tap the show that you want to be reminded about, and you can then favorite it, share it and set a reminder for it. Setting the reminder will send a text message to your phone.

One minor complaint it that the app is a little slow to start up. However all in all this is a great free iPhone/iTouch app for anyone that subscribes to HBO or wants to learn more about HBO to decide whether or not to subscribe.
