HBO announced today that they will not be ordering any more sessions from In Treatment. The therapy drama, which completed three seasons, kept dipping in the ratings, with its third season finale only drawing about a quarter of a million viewers. That finale episode, created only to close out the season at the time, will have to act as a series end now.
In Treatment was created Rodrigo Garcia and revolved on Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne), a psychotherapist who was in therapy himself. Week in and week out we saw sessions with his very specific and troubled patients, as well as his own time on the other side of the couch. The series premiered on January 28 2008 and ultimately ended on December 7 2010.
But if you're worried this show will leave a void for anyone looking for counseling from their flat screen, you may not have to look too far. After all, Showtime has Web Therapy coming this summer-- albeit a comedic attempt adapted from Lisa Kudrow's web series of the same name. It was also announced today that Bravo has The Therapists, a reality docu-series about Manhattan psychiatrists coming in the next year.
