HBO cancels 'Boardwalk Empire' after five seasons

HBO announced on Jan. 10, that they would be cancelling yet another one of their shows, "Boardwalk Empire" after five seasons.

"Boardwalk Empire" is a show set in Atlantic City during the Prohibtion Era. The show stars Steve Buscemi, who plays Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, a bootlegger who moved up through the ranks and took over Atlantic City.

It follows his life and lifestyle of love and violence.

The show has won several awards including forty Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won seventeen of them, including two for Outstanding Drama Series. It has also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

The series will premier in September, after the series finale of another HBO show, "True Blood". It will continue with its twelve episode season.

HBO has announced that "Girls" has been renewed and "Game of Thrones" will return on April 6.
