Hayley Atwell won’t return to ‘Captain America’ sequel (Video)

While the Marvel sequel to “Captain America” won’t hit theaters until 2014, cast rumors and other details have begun to surface. On Wednesday, January 2, Cinemablend got word that actress Hayley Atwell will not be appearing in the “Captain America” sequel.

Hayley Atwell portrayed Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers/Captain America’s love interest in “Captain America.” But for the upcoming “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” it looks like the Cap’n is getting an all new love interest.

Fans all assumed she wouldn’t be returning, after all, Peggy met and fell for Rogers during the war and many, many years have passed since. Still, Peggy and Rogers goodbye was bittersweet and fans hoped she would make an appearance either in a flashback or at least a cameo to set things right with Rogers.

Accompanying the Captain in the sequel will be Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders as Nick Fury, Black Widow and Maria Hill. Sebastian Stan is also set to reprise his role of Bucky Barnes, the Captain’s best friend who fell to his death in the movie. According to the plot, Bucky survived and will return as The Winter Soldier.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is scheduled for an April 4, 2014 release.
