Bad news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe fans hit the web yesterday.
It is being reported that Hayley Atwell (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) will not be reprising her role as Peggy Carter in the sequel, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
We learned in “The Avengers” that Peggy Carter is still alive in the present day, and it’s assumed (since the producers already said they were working on it) that we’ll be getting at least a few flashbacks to Captain America in the 1940s in the sequel, so it seemed feasible for her to make an appearance but I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
TimeOut has learned that filming begins in March on the highly anticipated sequel, but a leading lady still hasn’t been cast.
People like Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”), Anna Kendrick (“End of Watch”), and others have all been through the casting office for the role, but they haven’t locked one down yet.
It seems as if time is running short, and we will know sooner rather than later who gets the coveted spot.
