Twas the night after Christmas and Hayes Carll brought an incredible show that had the creatures stirring in Little Rock. Carll and his band played a heapin’ dose of his brand of alt-country music at the Rev Room on December 26, 2013. Local singer Bonnie Montgomery and her band hit the stage at 9 p.m. and did a great job getting the crowd warmed up. A little after 10, Hayes Carll and his band hit the stage, opening with the song he penned for the crowd’s hometown, “Little Rock.”
Hayes Carll and the four other musicians in his band had the packed room singing, dancing, laughing and having fun as they played an awesome two hour set that included “KMAG YOYO,” “Hard Out Here,” “Bible on the Dash,” “I Got a Gig” and “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up.” He told stories about his early days playing in Crystal Beach, Texas and talked about his very first gig in Conway, Arkansas.
After finishing up with “Bad Liver and a Broken Heart,” "Drunken Poet's Dream" and “Stomp and Holler,” Carll and the band came out for a three song encore. It included a woman from the audience and opener Bonnie Montgomery coming on the stage to help him do the popular duet “Another Like You," while the crowd sang along.
Hayes Carll continues his “Holiday Hangover” tour this week and will probably have more dates in 2014. If you get the chance to see him, do it. Stay up to date by visiting www.hayescarll.com.
