Hay Raiser will benefit Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado

A HAY RAISER - Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado will host its 2nd Annual Open House & Hay Raiser on Saturday, May 17. The free event will help raise money for animal care and the therapy organization's scholarship programs. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Barking CAAT Ranch, 1255 Lee St., Lakewood.

The kid-friendly event will feature a rummage sale, bake sale, refreshments, crafts for kids and interaction with the animals. Assisted Animal Therapy Programs uses animals in its therapy programs, such as marital counseling and counseling for troubled children.

FURRY SCURRY TOTAL - Last Saturday's Furry Scurry raised almost $1 million for the Dumb Friends League and the total can still climb. Fundraising continues through June 2, and donations can be made at FurryScurry.org.

The Furry Scurry drew a crowd of nearly 12,000 people and 5,000 dogs to Washington Park, along with sponsors and vendors.

“The work we do wouldn’t be possible without such generous local support of our mission and programs that help homeless pets in need,” said Dumb Friends League president and CEO Bob Rohde. The organization takes in an average of 55 homeless pets every day—more han 20,000 last year.

PET PHOTO FUNDRAISER - Professional photographer Kathryn Sauber of Kathryn Sauber Photography, and Handsome Hounds, a Wash Park groomer and doggie self- wash, are collaborating on a pet photo fundraiser to benefit MaxFund. (www.MaxFund.org) From May 4 to May 11, a pet photo shoot with Sauber is $59.95. Participants will get a free 8x10 or two free 5x7 photos. TO MOM, WITH WET KISSES - For a different sort of Mother's Day gift, participants can make a donation to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and send a personalized e-card to their mother acknowledging the gift. Information: (www.boulderhumane.org).

FEASTING FOR FELINES - On Thursday, May 15, 730 South Bar & Grill will donate 20 percent of each check for lunch or dinner to the Cat Care Society. The restaurant is at 730 S.
