Hawks lose to Spurs without starters

Larry Drew decided to rest Josh Smith, Kyle Korver, Devin Harris, DeShawn Stevenson and Al Horford for last night's game in San Antonio against the Spurs, despite losing two straight games at home.

Despite a valiant effort from reserves and rookies, the Hawks fell to the Spurs, 99-97. The Spurs were without Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker, but Tim Duncan carried the Spurs to victory. Duncan finished with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks. Kawhi Leonard chipped in 23 points as well.

It was the Hawks' rookies that almost led Atlanta to victory. John Jenkins led the club with 23 points on 7-for-9 shooting, and Mike Scott had 22. Unfortunately, the club was out-rebounded again, 49-38, and could not stop Duncan on either end of the floor.

The Spurs stayed on top of the Western conference with the win, moving to 57-20 with an impressive 34-5 record at home. The Hawks, now 42-36, only have four games to get their act together before the playoffs. They are three games behind the Bulls in the East, and two games ahead of Boston, currently sitting in sixth place in the East.

Should the season end today, they would face the Pacers in the first round. The Hawks have split four games against the Pacers this year, with all four games being won by the home team.

The Hawks next face the Sixers (31-45) on Wednesday night.
