The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in overtime on Monday. Next up for the Hawks will be the St. Louis Blues on the road when they try to extend their amazing unbeaten regulation streak to 20 games.
The game would get off to a rip roaring start as the first Blackhawks power play would bring about a lot of action. The Oilers would score a shorthanded goal when Jeff Petry scored his first goal of the year 45 seconds into the power play. However, the Hawks would tie the game on the same power play when Patrick Kane would score his tenth goal of the season. The game would be 1-1 at the end of the first period.
The Oilers would score a power play goal in the second period when Nail Yakupov scored his sixth goal on a one timer from the right faceoff circle. In the third period, the Hawks would not take long to tie the game. Just two minutes into the period, Viktor Stalberg would poke a loose puck past the goal line and Nikolai Khabibulin. The original call on the ice was no goal but after review, it was shown that the puck was under the pad of Khabibulin and across the goal line. The game would go to overtime where the Hawks would score a minute and forty-four seconds in. After Patrick Sharp was stonewalled twice, Marian Hossa followed up his own rebound by sliding the puck past an outstretched Khabibulin.
What it means
The Hawks are now 16-0-3 and have not lost in regulation in their last 25 regular season games. They lead the Western Conference with 35 points. The Hawks went 6-0-1 during their seven game homestand and will now head on the road for one game.

3. Nikolai Khabibulin- Khabibulin was stellar facing his old team tonight. He was a huge reason that the Oilers were able to get the game to overtime. Khabibulin made 31 saves on 34 shots including 3 on the final possession before yielding the game winner on the fourth try.
2. Patrick Kane- Kane scored a power play goal tonight. It was his first goal in seven games and Kane now has 8 goals in February. In fact, Kane has scored 14 points in 12 games in February.
1. Marian Hossa- Hossa scored his eighth goal of the season and his third goal in a row at home after not scoring at home until last Tuesday. He was strong around the puck all night long and was credited with 5 shots on goal. Hossa made an underrated move to push the puck to the left and out of the reach of Khabibulin on his game winner.
