Hawks get buried in an Avalanche

Recap

The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Colorado Avalanche 6-2 on Friday evening. Next up for the Hawks is the Edmonton Oilers at home on Sunday evening.

The Hawks would get on the board early when Jonathan Toews scored at the 5:44 mark of the first period when he put in a pass from Marian Hossa. The Avalanche would get on the board at the 16:36 mark when Paul Stastny scored on the power play.

The second period would feature the end of the streak as the Avalanche struck early and often. Corey Crawford would let in a soft goal when Matt Duchene shot a soft backhand that fluttered in between pad and post. Just 33 seconds later, the Avalanche would score again. John Mitchell would score his eighth goal of the season at the 4:49 mark. Midway through the period the Ryan O’Reilly would score his first goal of the season on the power play. Perhaps the summary of the night was on the fourth goal of the second period. Duchene beat out an icing call and three Hawks were caught below the goal line. This allowed Duchene to pass the puck out to Jaime McGinn who waltzed in front of the net for a one timer that beat Crawford.

Corey Crawford was pulled after the second period for Ray Emery. The Hawks would stop the bleeding when Bryan Bickell scored his fourth goal in five games at the 8:53 mark. Colorado would put any hopes of a comeback to rest when P.A. Parenteau beat Emery with under five minutes to play.

What it means

3. Ryan O’Reilly- O’Reilly is shaking off the rust after his layoff for almost half of the season. He had one goal and one assist. A beast on the offensive zone, O’Reilly had 9 shots on goal and won 11 of 16 faceoffs that he took.

2. Paul Stastny- Stastny had a phenomenal game as did the rest of the Colorado squad. He had one goal and two assists. In addition, Stastny won 13 of 21 faceoffs.

1. Matt Duchene- Duchene has scored goals in both games against the Hawks this season. Friday night was probably his best game as he had one goal and three assists. It was a night where Duchene filled up the stat sheet as he had four shots on goal, two blocked shots, two hits and won 8 of 13 faceoffs.
