Hawks fall to Wizards for 7th straight loss

Atlanta fell behind Washington early, tried to catch up, then got run out of the building tonight as they dropped their seventh straight game in a loss to the Wizards, 114-97.

It was the Wizards' first win in six years at Philips Arena, as they moved past the Hawks in the Eastern Conference standings with the win. The Hawks, at 25-28, have fallen to sixth place in the East.

The reeling Hawks are now wondering whether to make a trade before tomorrow's trade deadline. They only dressed nine players for the game, as Gustavo Ayon, DeMarre Carroll, and Pero Antic were all sidelined for the game. With their record now below .500 but still in the playoff mix, they could either be buyers or sellers tomorrow, or just stand pat and hope for a partial return to health down the stretch.

Paul Millsap had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Elton Brand had a season-high 20 points and 11 rebounds in 35 minutes. Lou Williams added 14 points off the bench. For Washington, John Wall had 21 points and 12 assists while Trevor Ariza had 19 points.

Ariza had the highlight of the game, hitting a 75-foot shot at the end of the third quarter. The Hawks had whittled a 31-14 first quarter deficit down to one point, but Ariza's shot changed the momentum heading into the fourth quarter as Washington held Atlanta to just 14 fourth quarter points.

The Hawks have tomorrow off before traveling to Detroit to face the Pistons Friday night. The question will be, who of the Hawks will still be around and who will be playing elsewhere?
