Pau Gasol posted a double-double and Xavier Henry finished with 18 points to save a win for the Lakers, who had blown a 21-point lead to Atlanta earlier in the game but held on to beat the Hawks, 105-103. Gasol hit the game-winning free throws with just six seconds remaining and the Hawks were unable to tie it up at the buzzer.
The Hawks had trailed 44-23 in the second quarter, before getting within 12 at the end of the third and tying it up late in the game.
Kyle Korver, who led the Hawks with 22 points (including six three pointers) missed a 21-footer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime. Korver, along with Al Horford (12 pts, 16 boards) and Dennis Schroeder (10 pts, 4 assists in 22 minutes off the bench) helped key the Hawks; comeback.
The Hawks now sit at 1-2, after losing their opener on the road in Dallas Wednesday and beating Toronto Friday night at Philips Arena. Despite a high-tempo offense averaging almost 105 points per game, the team sits far back in most defensive metrics through three games.
The Hawks' next matchup is tomorrow night in Sacramento against the Kings (1-2)
