The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Hawks will complete a home and home with Colorado on Friday night.
The Hawks would get the scoring started when Andrew Shaw scored on the power play at the halfway point of the first period. The lead would not last long as John Mitchell would score with under two minutes remaining in the first period. Matt Duchene would give Colorado the lead as he scored at the 13:19 mark of the second period.
The Hawks would enter the third period trailing but they would draw even quickly. Jonathan Toews would score a shorthanded goal as he beat Seymon Varlamov to the far post. It would not be all good news for the Hawks as they were severely shorthanded in the third period. Marian Hossa was a late scratch as he suffered an injury in warmups. Shaw did not come out for the third period as he took an elbow to the head. Both injuries are not considered serious. However, the Hawks lost Patrick Sharp midway through the third period to a serious shoulder injury. He could be out for a while. Just when you thought the game was going to overtime, the Hawks struck again. Daniel Carcillo poked home a rebound on a Viktor Stalberg shot for the game winner with 50 seconds remaining in the contest.
What it means
The Hawks have officially reached the halfway point of the season without a loss in regulation. They are 21-0-3 and have 45 points which is good for the best record in the NHL. The streak has now reached 30 games and the Hawks find themselves five games from the most games without a loss in regulation.

3. Matt Duchene- Duchene had a great game for Colorado and scored his eighth goal of the season. He was credited with 3 shots on goal in addition to 2 hits and 1 takeaway.
2. Jonathan Toews- Captain Serious had another great game for the Hawks. He scored the game tying goal shorthanded with a sweet move. Toews had 3 shots on goal and won 10 of 20 faceoffs.
1. Daniel Carcillo- Carbomb dropped a bomb on Colorado by poking in the game winner with 50 seconds left. That was the first goal of the season for Carcillo. In addition, he was forced to play extra minutes with the losses of Shaw and Sharp during the game.
