Hawk Island on Memorial Day Weekend

See also

Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching and instead of loading up the car and driving hours away to a packed beach, fighting the crowds just to end up at a run-of-the-mill hotel or on the hard ground camping, why not grab a beach towel and cooler and have yourself an exciting day at Hawk Island. Think about it, no long car rides (and restless children), no crazy Memorial Day traffic and the best part, you can come home to your own comfy bed.

Hawk Island is located on Cavanaugh Road, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Aurelius Road, in south Lansing. Here you will find a beach with public swimming, boat rentals, a splash pad and fishing dock. There is also sand volleyball, horse shoes and 1.5 miles of paved paths around the park to walk, run or bike.

When it is time for lunch you can unpack your cooler and sit down at one of their picnic tables or covered shelters. If you didn’t bring a lunch that is fine because there is a snack bar there that serves all of your favorite summer time food like hot dogs, nachos, pizza, fruit & veggie cups, crackers and cheese and lets not forget ice cream!

Another reason to visit Hawk Island this weekend along with its convenience is the price. The entrance fee is only $2 for Ingham County residents and $4 for non-residents. The park also offers season passes for residents for $20 and non-residents for $40.

So what are you waiting for!? Grab some friends, your walking shoes, swim suit and cooler and hit the beach (or the trails). Your day can be fitness filled without you even knowing.
