Hawaii's SpeediShuttle selected to provide on-demand shuttle service in Honolulu

Folks in Seattle who go to Honolulu will find it important to know that SpeediShuttle has been selected by the Hawai‘i State Department of Transportation to operate the exclusive concession to provide on-demand shuttle service for passengers arriving at Honolulu International Airport beginning October 1, 2011. SpeediShuttle is headquartered in Maui operating on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Big Island and Kauai. The five-year concession award was the result of a competitive proposal process that included six of the largest ground transportation companies in Hawai‘i.

Cecil Morton, president, chief executive officer and owner of SpeediShuttle, credited the selection to the company’s core area of expertise, experience, proprietary technology and the proven high service standards of the company’s team of over 200 statewide.

SpeediShuttle’s core business has been airport shared-ride shuttle service since its inception in 1999. SpeediShuttle’s operating platform utilizes Mercedes Benz Sprinters, the safest and highest quality shuttles in the world. The company will deploy an additional 30 of the eleven-passenger vehicles on O‘ahu at the commencement of service at the Honolulu International Airport. In addition to servicing the Waikīkī and Aloha Tower destinations, which is the current service area, SpeediShuttle will service all points on O‘ahu.

Technology also played a role in the selection. For convenience, SpeediShuttle will deploy boarding pass kiosks at strategic locations throughout the terminals and will have greeters dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire offering service and issuing boarding passes with tablet PCs at any airport location.

Also key to the SpeediShuttle proposal was the development of a sense of place. “When visitors and local residents see our airport team they will know they’ve arrived in Hawai‘i,” Morton stated. He plans to enhance the uniforms for his greeters, shuttle attendants, and drivers by introducing women in Hawaiian print dresses, men in lava lavas and all wearing kukui nut lei.
