Hawaii loves Spam: Some precooked awesome meat

Mocked as surprise meat and the poor man’s steak, Spam (Some Precooked Awesome Meat) has made Hawaii its capitol (Hawaii is noted as the number one consumption locale of Spam). The locals (which has nothing to do with ethnicity, most people that were born and raised and even transients eat this surprisingly delicious meat by-product) consume it with pride.

Dubbed as one of the worst foods ingested high in saturated fat and sodium, when prepared right, this canned wonder becomes a delicacy. An excerpt from Wikepedia sums it up best, “The residents of the state of Hawaii and the territories of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) consume the most Spam per capita in the United States. On average, each person on Guam consumes 16 tins of Spam each year and the numbers at least equal this in the CNMI. Guam, Hawaii, and Saipan, the CNMI's principal island, have the only McDonald's restaurants that feature Spam on the menu. Burger King, in Hawaii, began serving Spam in 2007 on its menu to compete with the local McDonald's chains.[12][13]

In Hawaii, Spam is so popular it is sometimes dubbed "The Hawaiian Steak".[14] It is traditionally reheated (cooked), resulting in a different taste from Spam eaten by many Americans on the mainland, who may eat Spam cold.[15] One popular Spam dish in Hawaii is Spam musubi, in which cooked Spam is combined with rice and nori seaweed and classified as onigiri.[16]” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(food)

Even children revel in its delicious flavor. A mother chuckles as she shares her empirical home survey. She laid out a plate of spam musubi’s, macaroni and cheese, and chicken wings to see what her kids would prefer to eat. Every musubi was gobbled up in minutes, with no glance at the other dishes provided.

Regardless of what people may think about Spam, it’s requested most often by the Hawaii Food Banks and shelters, retailers and restaurants have turned a profit with creative dishes that sell faster than they can make it. When McDonalds and Burger King and 7-Elevens carry Spam dishes, one can assume that Spam has made it to the top. It may have a little bit of this and a little bit of that but in these tough economic times, Spam is still saving lives, in wartime or not.
