Mark your calendars, this coming Sept. 1-9 is the start of the week long festivities of the Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival 2013, held for the first time on two islands, Oahu and Maui. This event going on its third season promises to be one of best food and wine events happening on Hawaii. Over 70 world class chefs from all around the world will be participating and meeting food enthusiasts for the week-long festivities on both islands.
The festival is co-founded by Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, both James Beard award winners. The event highlights the bounty of Hawai'i resources; locally grown produce, beef, poultry and seafood. The participating chefs will be using locally sourced ingredients creatively with their demonstrations and showcase events. The festival will also include cooking demonstrations, exclusive dining opportunities, touring excursions and an impressive lineup of wine seminars from the celebrated California wineries.
“In partnership with the tourism industry, we created this festival to give travelers to Hawai‘i and residents alike an exciting and educational food festival featuring great chefs, winemakers, and event experiences that really capture the essence of the islands,” Yamaguchi said. “Our participants are required to use local ingredients found here in the Hawaiian Islands in the creation of their dishes. It’s a key element that sets our event apart from others across the country.”
This year’s event will feature a who's who of the culinary world. Preeminent chefs returning to the event including Masaharu Morimoto "Iron Chef", Hubert Keller, Charles Phan, Nobu Matsuhisa, Ming Tsai, Ed Kenney, Nancy Silverton, George Mavrothalassitis, Christina Tosi along with many other celebrated chefs.
