Fall is approaching fast; the days are becoming shorter and shorter. For a lot of people, this will mean they will never see daylight all through the week. It will be dark when they leave for work in the morning and yet dark again on their commutes home. Seems so dreary, doesn’t it? It’s hard to find any energy with all that darkness. Of course, you could drink coffee all day, but those pumpkin spice lattes can get pricy. Or you can down one of those five-hour energy drinks which are also loaded with caffeine, making for frequent bathroom breaks. Crank-up the latest from Havok, Unnatural Selection on your way to work and I promise you’ll be jacked-up all day! This thrash metal band from Denver, Colo. features some serious guitar rhythms, fast and furious drum beats, and raging vocals that will have you headbanging all the way into work.
Now I’ve noticed that there are three different types of headbangers out on the road: first are the air-guitarists who are forced to steer with their knees as their hands are too busy trying to emulate some killer guitar solo. If you’re one of those, I recommend “Give Me Liberty…Or Give Me Death”. The guitar rhythms are off the chains here, some of the best I’ve heard in a long time.
Next are all you drummers who treat your steering wheel as if it was a snare. If you happen to fall into this category, “Under the Gun” is your track. You will be tempted to rewind to the first 10 seconds or so over and over, but give the rest of the song a chance: it’s a great jam. This will definitely give your knuckles a work-out, just be careful you don’t accidently set off the airbag or it could mean lights out!
Lastly, we’ve got all you vocalists out there covered. Check out “Chasing the Edge”. It’s reminiscent of the Judas Priest classic, “Breaking the Law”. I highly recommend you are in your vehicle alone on this one, preferably with the windows rolled up. This song will take your voice to decibels unknown. But be careful; the guitar solo may turn you to an axe shredder without you even realizing it.
Word to the wise though, try to put your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road every once in a while. You know, for safety’s sake. And Havok takes no responsibility for the speeding tickets that are sure to pile up while listening to this album. But hey, it’s a blast to listen to!
Havok is currently on tour so be sure to check out their website for dates and cities.
