Having a 'Blast on the Bay' in Port St. Joe, Florida

The Thirsty Goat was the place to be tonight in Port St. Joe, Florida. Musical talent from Nashville gathered on the outdoor patio and included Will Rambeaux (talent discovered by Roy Orbison, wrote a #1 song for Faith Hill), Haden Carpenter, Jillia Jackson, Thom Shepherd and Megan Linville, all of which livened up a Friday night for a crowd that filled up the inside, outside patio -- and even the sidewalk to catch a tune or two. Fourteen-year-old Abagail Rose, who has written over 100 songs to date since she picked up a guitar at age 11, surprised the audience with a few songs of lovelorn experience that's hard to believe she's already endured. But she has, apparently.

Families and couples alike enjoyed the back-and-forth of musical wit and talent offered by the group. Then, come 9 p.m., Sherrie Austin, Walt Aldridge, Noah Gordon and Kevin Denney hit the makeshift stage on the patio.

This is all part of "Blast on the Bay Festival," the second annual songwriters' event, runs through Sunday, Oct. 17 and features up to 20 musicians over the span of three days. Oh, and did I mention it's free? Click on the following link to catch a performance by Megan Linville.

Like what you hear and see? Well, then. Here's the rest of the weekend lineup. And if you're wanting to be in Port St. Joe, but live in Boston, plan a trip here next fall -- book your flight on Southwest, and find a place to stay, such as down the road at WindMark Beach -- quiet, spacious luxury -- with Southern Resorts. You're gonna love it on the Forgotten Coast!
