Are you ready for the trouble (and Troubles) coming next for a little town of Haven in season 5 of the Syfy series? On Thursday, Aug. 28, series stars Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant spoke with reporters about what's to come, especially now that Mara is around.
Things aren't going to be easy for Nathan in "Haven" season 5 with Mara around. "She kicks my ass all over town, so that's a new development," Bryant previewed. "For Nathan, this is a nightmare. I can't really tell you all the things that Mara is capable of, but she is a force." Mara may be a force, but she's one that Emily is having fun playing. "Her personality is a blast, even though there are definitely moments in this season that she made me really uncomfortable and I didn't like playing her at some points," she admitted. "She's got a lot of attitude. …I feel like episodes 5, 6, 7, she really, really hits true Mara form, which is really exciting. …There are some things that Mara says that I was like, 'I really feel uncomfortable saying this right now.'" But will Audrey be back? All Rose would say is, "We don't know how and when and if she does come back."
They're shooting a double season – and double episode blocks – this year. "Instead of having to deal with a trouble so quickly and succinctly every week, we had more time to explore really the effect that those Troubles have on our characters," Bryant shared, and that allowed for "longer format storytelling" and more character interaction. "Sometimes there are multiple troubles or situations that are spun out over the two episodes," he explained. "In order to shoot 26 episodes this season, that was the smartest way to get it done."
The first block is very much about fighting to get Audrey back, and Rose said the second half feels different. She also pointed out that we haven't seen "Audrey Proper" for some time now. "Season 4, she was a Lexi/Audrey hybrid sort of, so I think that whole hunt for Audrey 1.0, so to speak, it's for me, personally, I really do and really was missing that original Audrey," she explained.
What else do you have to look forward to on "Haven?" Rose teased, "We do not abandon it" when asked about the Colorado Kid. Bryant revealed that Laura Mennell's character "affects all of [them] in massive ways." Plus, there's a "Freaky Friday" kind of Trouble coming.
"Haven" season 5 premieres Sept. 11 at 10 p.m. on Syfy.
