Have you seen this nerd?

As painful as it might be to admit this amateur video has a whole lot of me in it and chances are, it has a whole lot of you in it too!

Who hasn’t finished a book, video game, or movie, sighed for a moment and thought, “If only it were real…” I know I have, probably more times than I care to admit.

The students of the Digital Video Program at the University of Advancing Technology took that longing one step further and decided to produce a video portrayal of a desire to live out certain fantasies called, “Apart From Your World,” as their entry for a 48-hour Film Contest in November 2012, which garnered three awards for their efforts.

After the release it quickly circulated around campus and was given the unofficial nickname, “UAT the Musical.” Ok, it’s no Les Miserables, but it does manage to fit in references that satisfy pretty much every nerd in America, including Joss Whedon who gave it a thumbs up on Facebook.

Even though I may have been rolling my eyes for most of this video it wasn't for the reasons one might expect like the off pitch singing and silly choreography. No, nothing compares to the embarrassment of realizing that I own many if not most of the same posters in my room and I recognize every single Magic: The Gathering card stuck in that binder despite their brief on camera appearance.

Yes, this little video was way too close to home and it became obvious why it was lovingly nicknamed "UAT the Musical"... because it’s the story of every gamer nerd (me) who ever wished, even once upon a time, that their fantasy world...was real life.
