Fourteen-year-old Lacey Dewent left for school Monday morning, but she never arrived there. The Albuquerque, New Mexico teen was last seen at a Hastings store that morning. She is believed to be in the company of a man she met online, Robert Butler, and the two may be headed to Florida in a blue Subaru Crosstrek. An Amber Alert was issued for her Tuesday evening.

This little girl has gotten herself into a situation with huge probability of danger. Running away with a 26-year-old man she met on the internet, are you serious? When this was happening in the late 90s and early 2000s, it was shocking, but that it's still happening is ridiculous. Have we not all learned that you can't trust everyone you meet on the internet? You don't really ever know what that person is like.

Some people are pointing fingers at her parents, saying they didn't do their jobs, but that's probably not the case. Lacey is a teenager, an age group specifically known for their poor decision making. It's not as if they should have to watch her every minute. Her mother says all electronic devices, including the internet router, had been removed from the family's home, to attempt to sever the tie between her daughter and Butler. However, Lacey went around this by using the computers at school, and phones and iPads belonging to her friends. What's a parent to do? Even the most perfect parents don't have the right answer to every situation. In this situation, it would seem the blame lands solely on the daughter, who, even though she may be voluntarily missing, could still be in danger.

What is wrong with this guy, Robert Butler, anyway? Why is he chasing around little teenagers? And does he really think this is going to end well for him? At the least, he will probably be charged with kidnapping and transporting a minor across state lines, which likely hold pretty hefty prison sentences. Hopefully Lacey and her abductor are located soon, so she can be returned home, or maybe a juvenile detention center for a while, where she can learn how bad it can be.

Lacey is 5'4" tall, weighs about 135 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. If you have seen her, or Robert Butler, or have any information on where they might be, please call the Albuquerque Police Department at (505) 768-2450, toll free at 1(800)-877-765-8273, or call 911.
