I am amazed at the lack of Bible reading that occurs in our culture though we live in a culture in America with the freedom to read our Bibles in our homes and in public places. When will we learn as a people and especially as Christ believers, like many across the world, that freedoms won can be freedoms taken away under the right conditions. I am moved by the Spirit of God to encourage believers more than ever of the importance of daily Bible reading, memorization and study. We are living in the last days and this generation is a froward and wicked generation..."lovers of themselves...." 2 Timothy 3:1-7 (http://biblehub.com/niv/2_timothy/3.htm):
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth."(NIV®)
How else will you clean your mind from the filth of the world that we see daily in our work places, in our public places, on television, Internet, etc. The Bible is clear: we have a duty to study the Word of God so that we have God's answer to the plethora of daily life and the cultural norms that challenge and attack our faith in Christ. We must teach our children the importance of God's Word. If our children can use cell phones, and other electronic devices to write text messages, Facebook with friends and search the internet, they can read and memorize scriptures. The only weapon we have against our enemy is God's Word.
I'll be sharing more about this in the days to come through various titled articles that I pray will spur your faith and encourage your passion to read the Holy Bible. It is still the most famous book around and the only book that gives life...and eternal life through God's Son, Jesus Christ.
I ask you the question again, have you read your Bible lately? Are you setting aside 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes just to read one scripture that would clean your mind, encourage your soul, bring you into right relationship with Jesus, share with a friend, lift up a burden and salt or influence an unbeliever to give His heart to Jesus for salvation? I remind you again what I said at the first: freedoms we enjoy may one day not be available. If the Word of God does not live deeply in your mind and spirit one day you will wish that you followed this exhortation to "study to show yourself approved" (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV,) by read your word daily.
It is for your soul sake that I position this question and for my soul to. I need to hear a word from the Lord in the last in evil days. That word is the written word of God.
