Have you made summer camp plans yet? Private schools offer lots of options

You can handle spring break. At this time of year it's easy to justify a short vacation to somewhere warm and sunny or to a place with actual snow. If work prevents you from going out-of-town it's easy to trade-off childcare with another family. But, what about summer? Have you made plans for your kids and camp?

The good news is that many Baltimore area private schools have programs that not only put their facilities to use, but also their faculty. While the kids are having fun, it also can be a good opportunity to check out the school.

Well established full day camps like Summer at Friends and McDonogh Summer Programs keep kids busy all day and throughout the summer. While some are coordinated by the school, others such as ESF Camps at Gilman School and Harford Heights Summer Camp at Boys' Latin are operated by outside organizations.

Enrichment during the summer comes in many forms for kids of all ages. From academics and daytrips to drivers education. You'll find a healthy variety of options at these camps:

Does your child just want to learn a new sport or hone their skills? These private schools specialize in sports only and generally use their coaches, and athletes to provide quality instruction:

For children whose learning cannot take a vacation (and really all children should use their brain during the summer) Camp Jemicy features daily language skills tutoring, writing and math instruction, as well as a social and athletic camp experience. Camp Windward at Odyssey School also offers a specialized summer program for children with dyslexia.
