Whether it is coming or going, the next time you make a run for the border-- the Colorado border, that is-- make sure you make a pit stop for your complimentary souvenir courtesy of the bicentennial state., the official site of Colorado Tourism, is giving away a free hat to everyone who signs up on their website.

So what makes this hat so special? It is definitely not a stale cap straight from a souvenir shop at DIA. No, this “official” state lid comes embroidered with the famous “Welcome to Colorful Colorado” sign that has greeted drivers at the state line for generations.

The catch is simple- just head on over to and click on the “Free Hat Giveaway” tab. From there just let them know when you will be traveling and at which Official Colorado Welcome Center you would like to pick it up. You will be emailed a confirmation letter, which must be printed out and presented when you arrive for your hat.

Welcome Centers are located in Alamosa, Burlington, Cortez, Dinosaur, Ft. Collins, Fruita, Julesburg, Lamar, Red Rocks, and Trinidad. Stop by and get your free piece of CO fashion and show everyone your Rocky Mountain Pride!

In 2009 I saw several ads in varius Texas newspapers regarding signing up on line, visiting Colorado and going by a Visitor's Center and getting a free hat. I signed up on line and went to Colorado Springs and had a wonderful trip. While we were there we went by four Visitor's Centers and asked about the free hat. At all four centers we were told they didn't have any idea what we were talking about, although some of the centers did tell us it sounded like a good promotion. We returned to Colorado in Sept 2010
and, after returning home in Texas, saw another ad about a free hat. I guess I'm just not destined to receive a free hat, but I do like Colorado and may return in the future.

We love your macho model! He definitely has a future in hats. I hope we get to meet him some day. This "Welcome to Colorful Colorado" slogan makes us want to visit the Rockies.
