Many local area restaurants are dishing up Christmas Eve dinner as well. So you don’t have to! Restaurants that will be open on Christmas Eve include: 1863 Restaurant at the Wyndham Gettysburg, Dobbin House Tavern, Sharpshooters Grille, Dunlap’s Restaurant and Bakery, Sidney at Willoughby Run, Farnsworth House Inn Restaurant, Gettysburg Eddie’s, Cafe Saint-Amand, The Pub & Restaurant, One Lincoln and several others. Many local area churches are holding special worship services for Christmas as well. Gettysburg Presbyterian will be holding Christmas Eve Services at 4 p.m.—a Traditional Worship/Birthday Party for Jesus (with sermon) for children ages 2 to second grade. They will also be holding a contemporary worship with the Christmas Story at 5:30 p.m., a Family Worship Children’s Vocal and Bell Choirs with Christmas Story at 7 p.m. and a Traditional Adult Worship and vocal choir with brass and sermon at 8:30 p.m. Mt. Joy Lutheran will hold a Christmas pageant from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by a Christmas Eve Service complete with Holy Communion, candlelight worship and Christmas carols. Gettysburg United Methodist Church will be holding an informal family candlelight service at 4 p.m., Christmas Eve followed by a Fellowship Dinner at 5:15 p.m. and then a Traditional Family Candlelight Service at 7:30 p.m. On Christmas Eve, St. Francis Xavier will have Children’s Mass at 5 p.m.. a Christmas Vigil at 7 p.m., a Christmas Vigil in Spanish at 9 p.m. and a midnight Mass at midnight. On Christmas Day, there will be a Spanish Mass at 8:30 a.m., an English Mass at 11 a.m. and another Spanish Mass at 12:30 p.m. St. James Lutheran will hold a Quiet Contemplative Communion, on Christmas Eve, at 5 p.m., a Children’s Service at 6:30 p.m. and two Festival Communion Services with candle lighting , one at 8 p.m. and another at 10:30 p.m. On Christmas Day, there will be Worship and Holy Communion at 10 a.m. Great Conewago Presbyterian will be holding its Traditional Candlelight Service at 7 p.m., Christmas Eve, followed by refreshments and fellowship afterward. Christ Evangelical Lutheran will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service with carols, children’s message, music from the Youth Musical Ensemble and Holy Communion at 10:30 p.m. The Festival Service of Word and Sacrament will include candlelight, carols, sermons, Holy Communion and music provided by the Bell and Cancel Choirs and musicians. In nearby Emmitsburg, there will be a Christmas Eve Vigil at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton at 7 p.m. Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Eve Service at 8 p.m., Gettysburg Bible Baptist will hold one at 7 p.m. and Gettysburg Church of the Brethren will hold its Christmas Eve Service of Candlelight and Communion at 6 p.m. Foursquare Church will be holding Christmas Eve Services at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. There will be a Family Candlelight Service at 8 p.m., Christmas Eve, at Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian and a Holy Communion and Special Music at 11 p.m. For a listing of various area churches and contacts, click here.
