Have a heart...over heels (Photos)

Courage, resolve, firmness of will, and compassion are among the different meanings of the word heart as a way to describe one's character. This past Thursday evening (February 21st), thanks to the creative partnership forged by Raven Joiner and Tiffany Simone, all those in attendance are surrounding by an impressive collection of female entrepreneurs and patrons that are filled with such a sense and nature about them.

This is in the form of the inaugural Heart Over Heels event. Held at the Solarium in Decatur, GA, this creative evening serves more than just an alternative to the typical girls' "nite" out event, but a way to provide a platform for the creative and empowering exchange of services and resources designed for the greater good.

"We (Ms. Simone and Ms. Joiner) always talked about doing a project that would be the perfect combination given our background (in public relations and event planning", recalls Ms. Joiner of Raven J. Lifestyle Management.

Ms. Simone (of Royal T. Publicity) adds, "We are aware that women are looking for (different) things to do; our concept would be an ideal way to showcase the work of female entrepreneurs in a relaxed and professional social setting". Combined with the wide array of goods and services, as well as real-life stories and examples of entrepreneurship, it can also serve as a means of encouragement and inspiration for other aspiring business-owners and entrepreneurs.

Dana Clariett of Blue Stilleto is one of nine featured businesses who are a part of the event. Her business provides women from all walks of life with customized hand-crafted jewelry. "Our products help bridge the gap in providing jewelry (and related accessories) that is suitable for all events (professional, special events, and casual items)".

Beverly Johnson, a Remax (Legends) real estate broker endorses the importance of multiple revenue streams as well as simply giving back. Her Mary Kay business provides makeup and skin care (among other) items for personal and professional use; however, her message to aspiring business owners is simple and succinct.

"Have a plan, work your plan, and be persistent", Johnson notes, as she recalls some periods where there may have been a lull in her prospecting and sales.

Leslie Soldier (email contact of solderleslie@yahoo.com) of DoSol, LLC, whose customized jewelry is available at special events, mail order, and online (the website should be active in the upcoming days) simply took her creative outlet and hobby and developed it into her own business. Likewise, given the nature of this event, she notes how powerful and much of a positive impact the efforts of Joiner and Simone are.

"For these two women to take the initiative to do something and put this event together is simply inspiring to me and others who are out here", she remarks.

Other businesses that are part of the event include Fire N Ice Boutique (clothing), Urban Blu3 Jewelry (boutique), Trendie Tops (clothing; email contact of trendietops@gmail.com), Stephanie Spieth (email contact of spiethbs@comcast.net) of Beijo Bags, Lashes by AJ, Sabee's Voices Within Me (self-help services), and Human Health Services. Given the wide range of businesses, all patrons are able to gain access to multiple professional and personal resources covering fashion, accessories, self-help (via spiritual and other related services), and personal care (among others).

"The hair treatment (in addition to the lash services provided) resources we provide, especially for those dealing with alopecia, is more than just making sure women look good; we can provide (certified) healthy options that can improve one's appearance and self-image" notes AJ (owner of Lashes by AJ).

Jade Parker (email contact of jadey.cakes@yahoo.com) of Jadey Cakes sums up the spirit of the event, which is likely to run again later this year. Her business launched about one year ago after she builds upon her passion for baking (as learned from her grandmother). Her desserts (which are available for special events, catering, and other services) are organic-based and provide a healthier option for people to still indulge themselves in satisfying their dessert tastes.

"It's about making people happier and healthier", concludes Ms. Parker.

Providing a platform for businesses along with sharing and exchanging creative goods and services is what Heart Over Heels is all about. It provides an example of what can happen when individuals and collectives partner together for the greater community and economic good. As evidenced by the creative and positive pairing of Tiffany Simone and Raven Joiner, the possibilities are limitless.

And, they are full of heart.
