Haute Cuisine Jelly Beans for $500 a jar

Jelly Belly inventor David Klein has reinvented the wheel, well the jelly bean. Coated in gold leaf, Klein’s diminutive confections are packaged in a crystal jar for a mere $500 a jar.  The 24 karat sugary nuggets will be unveiled this week at the Sweets and Snack Expo in Chicago. We hear they will be under armed guard.

The press release states:   “Influenced by food deconstruction masters such as Jose Andreas and Ferran Adria of El Bulli, David’s ‘Beyond Gourmet’™ jelly beans will enable one to create haute cuisine and exotic dishes using the taste elements of each jelly bean. It’s beyond candy! It’s literally an exotic trip around the world though the sense of taste via never-before-tasted jelly bean flavors. Imagine creating a Thai Lemongrass Curry or an Indian Mango Chutney dish by constructing complex dishes in your mouth, and giving it an explosion of taste that hits all your senses.”

Curious if Leaf Brands who is manufacturing will be exhibiting at the International Fancy Food Show to be held in Washington, DC in July so I can report first hand. The perfect gift for the person with money to burn and a heavy duty sweet tooth.
