Families looking for some spooky fun are invited to the annual Haunted Harvest at the Springs Preserve, which kicks off later this week.
The harvest features a haunted maze, trick-or-treat stations, carnival games and live entertainment. One of the event’s highlights is the scavenger scarecrow contest, which judges the best adult and youth entry for a homemade scarecrow that promotes environmentalism and illustrates Halloween folklore.
The Springs Café by Wolfgang Puck will also host themed evenings featuring food and beverage crafts, a “tattoo” station and photo opportunities. Themes include wizardry and witchcraft, pirates and princesses and the Wild Wild West. There is an additional $3 per person fee to participate.
The Haunted Harvest will culminate with the annual Safe Street Trick or Treating event on Halloween.
Residents who plan to photograph the festivities are encouraged to enter the Springs Preserve’s photo contest, held between Oct. 16 and Oct. 31. Photos must be submitted electronically through the Springs Preserve’s Flickr group. Winners will receive free passes to the 2010 Springs Preserve Holiday Spectacular.
The Haunted Harvest will take place from Oct. 15 to 17, Oct. 22 to 24, and Oct. 29 to 31, between 5 and 9 p.m. Admission to the harvest, located at 333 S. Valley View Blvd., is $8 for adults, $4 for children 5 to 12, and free for those 4 and under."
