"Haunted Collector" returned to the Wednesday night lineup on SyFy last night, March 6, with an eye-opening episode for horse lovers. The episode revolved around one woman’s struggle to uncover the reasons for her horses’ mysterious deaths. Although she assumed the caused was paranormal, it turns out the cause was something a little less sinister.
The "Haunted Collector" team traveled to Highland Farm in Montgomery, NY to help out Mary Lu, a woman who suspected paranormal activity was the cause of her horses deaths. John Zaffis and his crew met with the client to gather information, which included the fact that the prior owner of the property (and the horses) had expressed anger at the Mary Lu for taking away her property before she recently passed away.
When her horses began to fall ill and die from an unknown cause, Mary Lu assumed the prior owner was trying to take back her property.
Zaffis and his crew investigated the property and decided to turn to an expert for some advice. Upon talking to a vet, they learned that electrical problems in the barn could cause stray voltage to travel through the ground. Because the horses wore metal shoes the electricity could travel through their bodies producing illness or death.
On the paranormal end, Zaffis received message from the other side that led him to the attic. Once there, he discovered a broken antique battery charger that emitted high EMF spikes. Upon taking it to an expert in the field, he learned that the charger was often used on animals to prove that it was charged – often injuring or killing the animal.
Zaffis concluded that a paranormal entity was plaguing Mary Lu and trying to communicate the knowledge that stray electricity was the cause of injuries to her horses.
The battery charger was removed from the home, and the electrical wiring in the barn was repaired, ending Mary Lu's battle with the paranormal.
