Celebrate Eudora Welty’s 101st birthday at one of her favorite places in New Orleans, The Hotel Monteleone’s Carousel Bar and see the premiere of “The Purple Hat”. The festivities begin at noon, April 13.

The late Eudora Welty, one of the south’s most celebrated writers,  wrote the short story, “The Purple Hat” while sitting in the Carousel Bar, decades ago.  The short story has now been made into a 20 minute film, and those who attend this luncheon will be among the first to view it.

“The Purple Hat” film has won the New Visions Award, the Panavision Award and the Mike Laurance Award.

As a special birthday tribute to the late Ms. Welty, Fleur de Paris will showcase an elegant array of original hats.

The Eudora Welty luncheon is co-sponsored by The Hotel Monteleone, The Historic New Orleans Collection, the Faulkner Society, WLAE-TV and Le Petit Theatre.

Tickets to the premiere and luncheon are $35 and can be purchased by calling (504) 681-4452.  A special three-hour parking rate of $15 is also available in The Monteleone’s parking garage.  The Hotel Monteleone is located in the historic French Quarter at

214 Royal Street
