Hathaway and Franco tank-o

Anne Hathaway and James Franco tank at the Oscars

I am stepping out of my typical third-person style to provide my take on last night's Oscars broadcast because the people of Baltimore, as well as all over the world, have been let down. Instead of an upbeat, hip, young Oscars ceremony, we got a dull, off-pace ceremony in which half of the hosting couple served up jokes like he was serving up fast-food chicken. He didn't seem to want to be there.

We cannot have that anymore. I decided to contact The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences via e-mail, which I share with you below:

I am sure others have commented, but Franco and Hathaway tanked. Oscar night is the night I look forward to most, and it was very difficult to get through the broadcast last night. I almost fell asleep several times; I considered turning off the television. I have friends who watched the first 15 minutes and decided to boycott it because it was so dull and lifeless. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were the most entertaining part of the entire night, aside from hearing the actual winners. I would like to nominate them - not for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, but to host the next Oscar broadcast. They have great rapport, great timing, and aren't too shabby to look at. Please take this into consideration. Young audiences don't want boring hosts who happen to also be young; they want funny hosts who respect the honor of being hosts and will take the job seriously. They want a show, a spectacular feast for the eyes, a performance. They don't want half-baked, unfunny youngsters who do better on screen than live. Give us some more performers who make their living working in front of live audiences. Or just give us RDJ and Jude. They know how to work a glamorous crowd in the theatre as well as a crowd sitting at home, wrapped in their zebra-print Snuggies.
