Hatha yoga challenge - Day 18

DAY 18

I am sad to report that I sort of "fell of the wagon" today. My family came in from out of town very late last night and we were up until a little after 2 am. I was not able to get up at dawn for my usual routine, although I could not really sleep past 8 am. I was still incredibly exhausted. Once up, my guests had plans, which of course included me. Naturally, being the hostess that I am, I was very accommodating. Although the visit was nice, it completely disrupted my normal routine. I managed to squeeze in a short (2 to 3 minute) period of deep breathing and meditation, but that was it for the day. I got up late, ate late, and was then involved in various activities throughout the day. Luckily, I stuck to my guns when it came to food choices today. I had:

  • Brunch- Whole grain toast and yogurt with a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice.
  • Dinner- Assorted vegetarian casseroles (another dinner activity - luckily there were plenty of vegetarian choices), multi-grain bread, sparkling juice and a small piece of cake for dessert.

That is about it. I really did not have time for snacks today. It was another late night as well, getting to bed after 2 am once again. It is amazing how one late night with friends or family can really throw you off track. The question for my readers today is, how do you stay on track with yoga, or other diet and exercise plans when you have house guests or other big events to work around? I am sure there is no magic answer, but I could use some tips. Feel free to share any experiences you may have had. Is it rude to simply tell people good night because you have to get up early? What can be done about that foggy, drained feeling the next day after a late night? Let me know your thoughts...
