Not showing up for work can often cause problems for those who want to keep their jobs, in this case, it caused more than just the loss of the job.
Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputies were requested to conduct a welfare check on 24 year-old April Mazzanti by her employer, when she failed to show up for work. On arriving at the home on Saturday, Dec 21, 2013, the Deputies found Mazzanti to be safe and not in distress.
The Deputies asked Mazzanti for permission to have a look around to check on the welfare also of her two children, aged three and one year-old. That is where the Holiday season took a bad turn for Mazzanti.
The Deputies found processed marijuana plants hanging and drying in one room of the Valley Springs home on Hartvickson Lane. The Deputies also found equipment to manufacture hashish from the plants. Along with the plants, and the equipment, the Deputies found a number of guns in the home. April Mazzanti's husband, Joseph Allen Mazzanti along with his wife was also arrested for being a convicted person in possession of weapons, in conjunction with the drug charges.
The children were placed into protective custody by authorities. Christmas is likely to be a bit different than previously expected for the family. The Calaveras Sheriff's Office hasn't yet posted on their website if the couple will be released in time for Christmas festivities.
