Has Israel gone mad?

  Princeton Professor Richard Falk

The democratic nation of Israel is in the process of committing some grave errors. Could this be happening because there is no one "really" at the helm for the moment?

UN Human Rights Envoy Richard Falk arrived in Israel last night, and after being detained at the airport, he was put on a return flight to Geneva. Tzipi Livni declared that "Falk is not welcome in Israel". This really gives tremendous credence to this UN Meeting of the Middle East Quartet doesn't it? And why?

Well, Professor Falk has apparently criticized Israel on its human rights record with Palestinians. You'd think he was the first. What might have miffed Israel further is that he compared the situation in Gaza to Nazi atrocities, and called for re-opening the book on the 9/11 conspiracy theories. That must have put the proverbial nail in the coffin.

However, this also comes on the heels of the famous "99" suggestions for Israel issued by the UN Human Rights Council on December 10th to improve the treatment of Israel's Palestinian citizens. There is no doubt since Mr. Falk was the person who accused Israel of crimes against humanity in Geneva, that he has been sent back to the original point of his departure.

This is not the first time that Israel has refused entry to its detractors. While Jimmy Carter was allowed in the country in early spring 2008, the secret service refused to assist U.S. agents guarding the former president. In  May of this year, Israel detained and deported Jewish-American academic Norman Finkelstein, an Israeli critic and author of "Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History," who voiced his support for Hezbollah.

Jessica Montell, the executive director of Btselem, an Israeli group that monitors human rights in the occupied territories, said that even if Israel has “legitimate concerns about Professor Falk’s mandate,” barring his entry was “an act unbefitting of democracy.”

By barring American Jews and other world leaders from its borders who may see legitimate reasons for concern, Israel may be shooting itself in the foot. And though it may not realize it, it is giving credence to the very claims it rejects as "unfounded" or "unfair".

Defenders of the official account of 9/11 would have you believe there are no credible critics of the official account. However, consider the following:

    - Raymond McGovern, PhD, former Chairman of the CIA's National Intelligence Estimates (NIE) and 27-year CIA veteran. "I think at simplest terms, there's a cover-up. The 9/11 Report is a joke." (According to the CIA, NIE's are "the most authoritative written judgments concerning national security issues.")

    - William Christison, former Director of the CIA's Office of Regional and Political Analysis, overseeing 250 CIA analysts. 29-year CIA veteran. "I now think there is persuasive evidence that the events of September did not unfold as the Bush administration and the 9/11 Commission would have us believe. ... An airliner almost certainly did not hit The Pentagon. ... The North and South Towers of the World Trade Center almost certainly did not collapse and fall to earth because hijacked aircraft hit them."

    - Melvin Goodman, PhD, former Division Chief of the CIA's Office of Soviet Affairs and Senior Analyst from 1966 - 1990. "The final [9/11 Commission] report is ultimately a coverup. I don't know how else to describe it."

    - General Albert Stubblebine, former commanding general of U.S. Army Intelligence. 32-year U.S. Army veteran. "I look at the hole in the Pentagon and I look at the size of an airplane that was supposed to have hit the Pentagon. And I said, ‘The plane does not fit in that hole’. So what did hit the Pentagon? What hit it? Where is it? What's going on?"

For decades, the U.S. relied on these individuals to collect information essential to national security and provide critical analysis during a time when the U.S. faced far more real and much more serious threats than anything today. We cannot now ignore their stunning condemnation of the official account of 9/11.

Defenders of the 9/11 official accounts would probably not be happy with this foreign policy writer. There are too many inconsistencies which have never been addressed, nor resolved. There are also some enlightening documentaries on YouTube from countries like Japan, who are known for their political neutrality, who questioned the account during one of their parliamentary sessions. And of scientists who have attested that some of the physical evidence does not "add up". Watch for the release of George Tenet's book which has interesting excerpts about his comments during an "unguarded" moment while at Prince Bandar's place (of Saudi Arabia).
