Naya Rivera will not be included in the season 5 finale of “Glee,” an episode she was originally supposed to appear in. That is according to a report on E! Online yesterday. The site claimed her future with the hit show was uncertain.
Originally, the finale script called for Rivera to appear as her character, Santana Lopez. She was supposed to share a musical number with Amber Riley and Heather Morris. The episode which is set to air on May 13 now has no part in it for Santana according to several sources.
Cosmopolitan reported yesterday that it is believed the actress was fired after a long-simmering feud between her and “Glee” star Lea Michele erupted on set. It is reported that one or both of the ladies stormed off set. Rumors started earlier this month that one of them had to be escorted off set but sources told E! "no one was kicked off the set" and "no one was fired."
Some insiders are saying the change involving Rivera has nothing to do with Michele. E! quoted one source as saying, "[Naya] isn't fired and her not being in the finale has nothing to do with Lea," says the source who works on “Glee.” "I don't know where these stories are coming from, but they are not true."
With speculation running rampant, Rivera’s rep has come forward with the following statement: "Any reports or rumors circulating that Naya Rivera was let go or fired from Glee are absolutely untrue. End of story."
Decisions regarding the cast for season 6, the series’ final season, won’t be made until June. One insider said that Naya is loved by her “Glee” family and there are hopes everything can be worked out, adding that everyone needs a moment and that the break “is best for everyone.”
Show creator Ryan Murphy said recently that the door for season 6 is open to any of “Glee’s” cast. "My feeling about the last season of Glee is very clear, and that is we will be reaching out to all of the regulars on the show, that original group of Glee club members and the teachers, and anybody who wants to come back can come back," he said. "Anybody who wants to be a part of the show, we welcome them." This statement was made before the situation between Rivera and Michele escalated so it is not certain that it still applies to Rivera.
Rivera tweeted back in Feb, “On set with Glee shooting a very sweet Brit/Santana scene! #starttogetherendtogether,” which had fans speculating that the songbird might have been planning to leave the show. Now it looks as though she may have done so but not necessarily the way she had planned, if indeed she had planned to.
This finishes off what was already a bad month for Rivera. On April 9, People reported that the rep for the rapper Big Sean had confirmed the news that Sean had ended his engagement to Rivera. The break up was apparently a surprise to Rivera as the article suggested they were heavily into planning their wedding after having met last October over Twitter.
We wish Naya nothing but the best and hope whatever differences exist can be resolved. “Glee” just wouldn’t be the same without her. “Glee” airs on Tuesdays on Fox.
