“It’s Bigfoot, all right,” said George O’Keefe, a exo-animal expert in Los Angeles. “The recording is a little fuzzy, but it’s clearly not human or ape.”
A Shelby resident, Thomas Byers, was driving with a friend yesterday when the creature burst from the trees and crossed the road in front of him. Byers managed to capture approximately 5 seconds of video from 20-25 feet away.
"It ran across the road and into the woods right in front of us and I was able to film it," Byers wrote in an e-mail to WCNC NewsChannel 36 in Charlotte, N.C. "In the short video you can hear it snarl or growl at me."
Byers posted the video and a number of pictures on his blog, where he explains that Bigfoot has been “spotted for years” in the area.
Bigfoot, it appears, needs a bath. "One thing I know is the smell of it was horrid,” wrote Byers. “ It smelled like a cross between road kill and a skunk. And it did not like the fact that I was there on the road with it. In the video you can hear it snarl or growl at me as it crosses the road."
Visitors on his site remained at odds over the genuineness of the video.
“Unless and until one is captured nothing can be proven,” said O’Keefe. “This could be a fake, but until the video is analyzed professionally, it’s anybody’s guess.”
As the debate continues, Byers seems happy just to have been there and seen the phenomenon. “It was truly one of the most amazing things that I have ever seen," he stated on his website.
Representatives of the American Bigfoot Society did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
