“Better 10 Graves than 1 Birth,” “Abort it. Kill it. Terminate it. You just cannot give birth to him or her,” slogans and banners read in China, USA Today reports. Amnesty International and the US State Department criticize China’s One Child Policy as contributing to sex-selective infanticide.
According to reports, there are over 100 million missing girls in China. For $12 US dollars, a couple can receive an ultra sound to determine the sex of the child. Because a boy is more revered over a girl, many are aborted, neglected or abandoned at orphanages. Reports have indicated that girls are “disdained.”
The One Child Policy, based on Draconian family planning, originated in 1979 under the Communist government, Chinese leader, Deng Xiaoping in an effort to limit population growth.
Designated as a “temporary measure,” the One Child Policy continues a quarter century after establishment. The fear of overpopulation was adopted as a result of a failing economy, famine and increased poverty.
Chinese in rural areas are unaffected by the One Child Policy, however the policy is powerfully enforced in urban areas. A special provision for sibling-less young adults near childbearing years allots the couple two children legally. The provision was thought to be a shift in the changing One Child Policy Shanghai officials denied this claim stating that the caveat is nothing new.
Heavy fines and reports indicating forced abortion and sterilization are a result of this mandate. In addition, negative social consequences including sex discrimination have been cultivated out of this policy, boys being culturally preferred.
The ratio of males to females to the age of four years stands somewhat 114 to 100. This number has shifted to even a greater number and has been suggested to be as great as 126 to 100. The average ratio is 105 to 100.
In a CNN report, Minister Zhang Weiqing told the China Daily Newspaper,
“Abandoning the policy would cause serious problems and additional extra pressure on social and economic development.”
Human Trafficking allegations afflict Chinese government
Professor Kevin Bales consultant to the United Nations program on people trafficking, stated over 70,000 children are kidnapped a year and traded on the black market, adding that girls in China are sold for $500 and boys are sold for $1,000.00.
In November 2005, police in China uncovered a baby trafficking ring involving six orphanages and babies primarily from the southern part of the country. It is unclear how the children were obtained, but defendants claim the babies were abandoned while prosecutors in the case accused the Hengyang Social Welfare Institution of knowingly buying abducted babies.
The story is not singular and one of the many horror stories thwarting China’s officials who declare a “zero tolerance” for human trafficking.
China’s orphanages used as Organ Repositories?
Orphanages are stacked with unwanted baby girls. Child rights activists from the West posing as curious tourists claimed, “thousands upon thousands,” of unwanted baby girls were warehoused in what the government officially calls “orphanages” waiting to be slaughtered for their “young organs.”
In the report, it was indicated that China harvests organs from millions of toddlers and infants throughout China:
“Young organs are welcome on the national human organ market because many patients believe that young organs will keep them younger and prolong life…
…Children dumped in state run orphanages collect them…kept in dark rooms, waiting for their turn of execution, which will be times to coincide with demand.”
A crewmember asked of the staff why the orphanages were not keeping organ providers in a healthier state. “…They will be dead anyway…” came the reply.
“We provide only first-class products.”
The film crew described the toddlers and infants always covered in their mucus, usually soaked in their own urine and often infested with viruses.
Kate Blewett producer of the controversial “Dying Rooms,” which has been viewed in over 37 countries and by more than 100 million people stated,
“I did not know human beings could treat children with such contempt, such cruelty. Some of the orphanages we visited were little more than death camps.”
Chinese officials responded to the “Dying Rooms” documentary:
“…The so-called dying rooms do not exist in China at all. Our investigations confirm that these reports are vicious fabrications. The contemptible lie about cannot but arouse the indignation of the Chinese people.”
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) expressed cases of trade in human organs in Asia, stating,
“Globalization increased sale of human trafficking…a rise in China, South East Asia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam.”
Since 2000 according to Chinese officials, drastic measures in the welfare and improvement of their children in orphanages have taken place due to pressures from insiders within their own government, charities, politicians, pressure groups, the media and the UN.
China faces allegations of Organ Harvesting and the Selling of Body Parts from Prisoners
Accusations charging prison officials of harvesting organs from death row or executed prisoners have loomed and daunted China for years.
Due to the abnormal secrecy of China’s execution methods, many taking place by hanging, factual numbers surrounding their execution rate has been difficult.
China is thought to have executed more prisoners than any other country in the world. Western human rights monitors average at least 15,000 a year, more than the world’s reported judicial executions combined.
The allegations, by British transplant surgeons and international human rights groups, confirm thousands of organs a year are indeed harvested from death row or executed prisoners to sale for transplants in China.
With accumulating evidence, British transplant surgeons claimed that a gross amount of the harvest organs were taken without consent. They condemned the practice as, “..unacceptable and a break of human rights.”
In a disturbing BBC investigative report (BBC video), an undercover representative posing as a potential client inquiring about the purchase of a liver for his father, showcases a doctor confirming allegations of the organs originating from prisoners.
The Chinese government denied allegations, indicating that prisoners expressed permission, volunteering their organs, as “present to society.”
Professor Stephen Wigmore who chairs the society’s ethics committee, told BBC the speed of matching donors and patients could be as expediently done within a week. The implication, it appeared, was that prisoners were being selected prior to execution for their organs, based on medical history, health and other factors.
In 2005, Deputy Health Minister Huang Jiefu told the UK online,
“We want to push for regulations on organs transplants to standardize the management of the supply of organs from executed prisoners and ‘tidy up’ the medical market.”
In 2006, China authorities placed stricter controls in place and tightened regulations, making the selling of organs illegal including that all donors must give written permission prior to the harvesting of their organs.
Falun Gong members killed in China for corneas, livers, kidneys and skin- Present Day
During a news conference on Capitol Hill in April 2010, David Matas of B’Nai Birth Canada and Ethan Gutmann of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies found a disturbing trade.
The investigation of the execution of 9,000 members of the Falun Gong, revealed the deaths were a result of the need to sale their corneas, lungs, livers, kidneys and skins.
“Dissidents from China’s Christian, Muslim and Tibetan Buddhist communities — are also being harvested to satisfy an insatiable global demand,” Matas and Gutmann claimed.
“These groups are useless to the state,” Mr. Gutmann said.
“They are toxic, so you can’t release them. But they’re worth a great deal of money in terms of their organs.”
he added,
“Organs from just one person can fetch a total of $100,000 on the worldwide market.”
Additional reports indicate that a liver can sell for $41,000.00
Human Body Parts Sold in other Countries- Albinos wanted for magical potions
The harvesting of organs is an international wide spread market. Countries throughout the world have participated in this horrific prosperous money making market, attracting foreigners from allover the world to purchase organs for immediate transplant.
In Tanzania, the want of Albino organs for witchcraft and potions in an unprecedented amount has caused many Albinos to go into hiding.
The Albino Association of Tanzania indicates that 4,000 Albinos are registered, but as many as 173,000 exist. The gross number is unregistered due to the number of killing of Albino adults and children, totaling at least 50 in the last 3 (three) years.
It has been reported,
“Tanzanian believe that body parts of people with Albinism have magical powers capable of bringing riches…used in potions produced by local witch doctors.”
Due to the demand, a vast majority of body parts are exported outside of Tanzania. In September 2008, the European Parliament passed a resolution condemning the killings and called for killers to be prosecuted. During the issue, 172 people were arrested in connection of killing Albinos.
In August of 2010, Tanzanian police attempting to sell another Albino man for his body parts had arrested a 28-year-old Kenyan. A sting operation that took place resulted in the potential purchase of the man for over $250,000. The Albino man was mislead, and made to believe that he was going to be the assistant of a truck driver.
Harvested organ sales in other countries
CNN reported that in Haiti, as a result of the death of more than 150,000 people, left a haven for traffickers of orphaned children and a grotesquely rich opportunity for human organ harvesting.
In Egypt, authorities had investigated alleged murdered homeless orphans due to the sell of their body parts to private hospitals for transplants.
Besides Haiti, Egypt, and China additional parts of the world where the market for harvesting organs is lucrative:
Kosovo
Mozambique
India
Pakistan
